Artist Tadahiro Uesugi, who won an Annie Award for his work on the Pokémon Resort concept and on the human characters Haru and others, aimed to inject some unexpectedness into the Pokémon universe. “Primarily, we aimed for individuals to view it and remark, ‘That looks fun.'” he continues.
With 30 different facial expressions for Haru to use, the production crew made sure that every human character could exhibit a wide spectrum of emotions, adding depth to the series.

The movements of each Pokémon and human character were carefully considered by director Iku Ogawa. This included Psyduck’s waddling and Haru’s jogging. The script’s characters were fine-tuned, allowing him to bring the fantastical world to life.
